Overview

The Director, Benefits is responsible for the strategic oversight and administration of the Company’s benefit plans and programs, including health and welfare, retirement and other benefits. This includes
management of an internal Benefits team, management of any outsourced vendors (benefits administration and leave of absence), and analysis/integration of an acquisitions. This role has a highlevel of strategic responsibilities and implements the detailed processes and controls to support the Benefits team. This role also provides analytical and plan expertise for the health & welfare, and retirement programs as well as ensures plans and programs are in alignment with Concentra’s business objectives and overall Orange Book philosophy. Experience with a start-up and/or a public company would be preferred as initial responsibilities will include building the benefits team from the ground up as this is a new function for Concentra.

Responsibilities

• Manages, plans, develops, implements, administers and communicates benefit programs, including all health, welfare and retirement benefit plans.
• Manages the overall benefit plan renewal process and annual benefit plan budgeting in close partnership with Finance.
• Creates and executes written project plans that identify scope, deliverables, tasks, accountabilities and due dates required to ensure successful project completion.
• Develops, introduces, markets and communicates all benefit program implementations and changes to colleagues and leadership.
• Responsible for the overall relationship with vendors, brokers and/or consultants
• Proactive in anticipating changes and needs of the marketplace, company, and colleagues to ensure the benefit program remains competitive and financially sustainable.
• Researches legislative requirements and ensures compliance of the various employee benefit plans and programs.
• Oversees internal and external audits and ensures internal compliance standards are met, including but not limited to, all SOX controls for benefits.
• Envisions, conceptualizes, and formulates action plans for process improvements, service delivery enhancements, and cost savings measures.
• Provides guidance, advice, analysis, and training of HR professionals with respect to applicable benefit plans.
• Recognized subject matter expert and provides consultation regarding complex benefit issues
• Responsible for managing a benefits team, including employee coaching, development, performance management and staffing.
• Accountable for staying abreast of and compliant with all government regulations.
• Responsible for researching, implementing, and communicating the benefits piece of any acquisition, merger, or joint venture.
• Understand the HR/Payroll system and work with internal departments to drive efficiencies.
• Supports the mission and direction of Concentra.

Qualifications

Education Level: Bachelor’s Degree
Major: Human Resources (or a related field)

 

Degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Customarily has at least the following experience: 5 years
• 5-7 years of applicable Benefits experience with a working knowledge of the benefits strategy, management and administration as well as management of outsourced vendors.
• Proficient in all Microsoft Office programs (pivot tables & vlookups are key)
• Knowledge of Oracle HRMS, or a related software package, and Businessolver (benefit administration) is highly desirable, but not required.
• Self-starter with strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
• Experience in building a new benefits function, preferred
• Ability to handle issues involving sensitivity, confidentiality, and legal exposure.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a high-performing team with minimal direction.
• Ability to identify outside consulting needs and present financial and business case metrics.
• Must possess a high-level of technical and problem-solving skills to complement a strong leadership and management skill set.
• Must possess critical thinking skills as well as being a strategic thinker.
